November 29, 2018: X-Waiver Training for MAT Treatment Prescription:

Department of Health and Human Serivces, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services.
Assistant Clinical Professor, UCSF Department of Psychiatry.
Board Certified: Adult Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine.

Target Audience: MD’s, DO’s, NP’s, PA’s, interested in obtaining DEA “X-Waiver” to prescribe buprenorphine in the treatment of opioid use disorders.

Course Objectives: 
Participants will be instructed in:

  • History of medication assisted treatment for addictive disorders
  • Clinical management instruction on the induction and maintenance of patients with opioid use disorders using buprenorphine (suboxone)

Certificate of Completion:
Following the in-person training, participants will be provided with a link to complete five on-line modules (approximately 4 hours). By completing the in-person training, the on-line self-study and a self-assessment, participants will have satisfied requirements to obtain DEA X-Waiver to prescribe buprenorphine/buprenorphine-naloxone in the treatment of opioid use disorders. Instructions and guidance will be provided for completing the necessary paperwork.

NPs and PAs are required to complete additional online or in person trainings to complete all requirements necessary for waiver. The additional 16 hours of training is available on PCSS at no cost: https://pcssnow.org/education-training/mat-training/
