New dental center opens in Winters
Winters Healthcare now serving more than 5,000 patients at its small clinic

Winters Healthcare Center, a federally qualified health care center serving more than 5,000 patient visits a year, this week announced the opening of a new dental office, headed by Dr. Sapna J. Hayes.

Hayes, selected to establish and lead the new facility after a nationwide search, is a 1997 graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. She has a decade of clinical experience as an officer of the U.S. Air Force, where she was stationed in England, San Antonio, Tampa, and, most recently in Vacaville.

"Dr. Hayes brings us the latest in best practices of dental care as well as a wide range of patient experience so that we can greatly expand what we offer the local community to meet more of their health needs," said Chris Kelsch, executive director of the Winters Healthcare. "Her professionalism, warmth, and caring manner make her a great addition to the Winters Healthcare family of providers and we're delighted that she's chosen Winters as her home."

The new dental office answers community pleas for additional dental outlets, and expands the services of Winters Healthcare, which has provided medical and mental health care for more than seven years.

The new Winters dental office aims to reach children and under-served populations to help alleviate the long wait lists for local quality dental care.

Winters Healthcare has already identified nearly 300 children who have never received preventive dental care.

Located in the building adjacent to the current medical clinic in downtown Winters, the dental office will consist of a three-room operatory featuring the latest dental technology, including digital radiography and electronic patient records. The dental clinic will operate 20 hours a week in November, open on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays. In December the hours expand to 40 hours a week, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Hayes said the support from area dentists has been encouraging. Local dentists have donated operatory and other lab equipment as well as donating their professional expertise and time.

"These contributions are greatly appreciated by the dental office and will truly benefit our patients," Hayes said. "I have been around many 'service before self' people in my career but never to the extend that I have experienced here at Winters Healthcare"

Winters Healthcare Foundation was established in 2000 by a group of community members in response to the decision of a family physician to cease practicing medicine for a local medical corporation.

The establishment of a nonprofit community health care foundation was viewed as a means of ensuring that quality primary care services, including all the benefits of modern medical science, preventive health education, and patient advocacy would become accessible to each and every person in the region.
