Staff Writer

Members of the Woodland United Way were recognized and new officers named during a recent 41st Annual Appreciation Dinner held at the Yolo Fliers Club.

President Mark Ullrich reported the local community-service agency helped fund 12 health and human services agencies during the past year and had thus far in the campaign raised $211,000 and that the local United Way continued to "remain a small organization with a big heart" by adding a year-round, part-time administrative assistant and have increased its board and committee volunteers.

Officers and board members for the coming year include Ullrich, 1st Vice President in charge of Campaign efforts, Jeri Sheets, Mike Jansen, 2nd vice president in charge of allocations; Cyndi Blickle, treasurer; Jewel Trottier, secretary; Past President Howard Newens; and board of directors, Jim Rodgers, Lynn Gatie, Rick Sander, Christian Sherrill, Candie Rohwer, Mindi Nunes, Tod Reddish and Kevin Releford.

Recognized with Campaign Awards during the dinner were the Yolo Family Service Agency with the Agency Campaign Award; Rite Aid Distribution for the Employee Campaign Spirit Award; Wraith Scarlett Randolph Insurance as the Top Insurance Contributor; True Value Distribution for Outstanding Campaign Support; JCPenney for Leading Retail Contributor; Yolo Federal Credit Union with the Sponsorship Award; Ames Company with the Top Manufacture Campaign; Seminis Vegetable Seeds for Most Improved Campaign; First Northern Bank for being the Top Bank Contributor; the City of Woodland for its Outstanding Employee Campaign; Woodland Health Care for being the Major Medical Contributor; Target Distribution, which was recognized with a Presidential Campaign Award; and Yolo County, honored with the Largest Campaign Award.

Each year United Way recognizes an agency for it outstanding contribution to the community, Vargas reported.

"The Woodland United Way Citizen's Review Committee annually reviews all agency-funding requests. As part of that process members visit each agency and jointly interview agency representatives," said Vargas.

"This year we asked members of that committee to make recommendation for the Agency of the Year award recipient to the Woodland United Way Board of Directors. I'm happy to say that the Board wholeheartedly agreed with their choice," Vargas added.

Speaking about the coming year, Ullrich said the agenc's goals remain the same:

It will continue to reach out and partner with more agencies in the community, work to increase its fund raising campaign, seek ways to expand its fundraising activities, find more resources to support member agencies that provide essential human services in the community.

"We'll do all this with the United Way staff and dozens of volunteers and with all of your support," Ullrich said.

The event was sponsored by Yolo Federal Credit Union, First Northern Bank, Ullrich Delevati, CPA; Consumers Guide, Target Distribution Center and the Yolo Fliers Club.
