Parent 'survival guide' offered to Yolo families
It is not easy to be a parent. Often moms and dads find themselves at wit's end and don't know where to turn for help.
Now, the Yolo County Children's Alliance and Child Abuse Prevention Council is reminding parents and caregivers that the free Parent Survival Guide is available with just a click of the mouse or a phone call away.
"The Parent Survival Guide has been a lifesaver for families looking for a simple tool to help with their parenting needs," said Katie Villegas, executive director of the YCCA.
The Parent Survival Guide is full of resources for anyone looking for assistance regarding family matters and child rearing. It includes information on everything from health services and youth-development programs to childcare services and emergency shelter, food and clothing. Helpful clinics, centers and resource agencies are listed along with their phone numbers and toll-free lines.
The following are just a few of the main supportive services listed in the guide that are available to all Yolo County families:
• Health Services (hospitals, CommuniCare clinics, health resources, free and low-cost programs and services)
• Mental Health and Counseling (crisis and suicide prevention services and hotline numbers)
• Substance Abuse Services (confidential helplines for teens and adults, smoking cessation treatment)
• Parental support and breastfeeding classes)
• Youth Development Programs and Services (theater, Friday night activities for teens, youth centers, scout activities, church-youth programs, and craft, science and recreational programs.)
The Parent Survival Guide was researched and compiled by the YCCA in collaboration with First 5 Yolo. Copies of the guide are available at First 5 Yolo at 403 Court St., in Woodland.
