The 2007/2008 Woodland United Way funding allocations have been decided.

Agencies interested in receiving Woodland United Way dollars must go through a certification process, which includes submitting current financial statements, before they are eligible for funding. Once they are certified they are eligible to submit a proposal for funding. 22 local nonprofit agencies submitted proposals to the Woodland United Way for funding.

Requests nearly doubled the amount available. This made the funding decisions even more challenging, according to United Way Executive Director Pam Vargas.

More than 15 local volunteers from a variety of backgrounds including banking, downtown business, real estate, local government, education, and law reviewed and rated each proposal submitted for funding, visited each agency's site and listened to each agency make a twenty minute presentation to the full committee. This process began in March 2007 and concluded at the end of May 2007.

These volunteers dedicated more than 20 hours of service to the success of this process. All allocation decisions were made by local volunteers who work and/or live within Woodland and who have a vested interested in the betterment of our community.

The following agencies were funding for the 2007/208 allocations. Congratulations to Yolo Family Service Agency, Suicide Prevention of Yolo County, Communicare Health Centers, Northern California Children's Therapy, Short Term Emergency Aide Committee, Yolo Wayfarer Christian Mission, Food Bank of Yolo County, People Reaching Out, Girl Scouts of Heart of Central California, Families First (Yolo Crisis Nursery), Yolo Community Care Continuum and the Yolo County YMCA.

Woodland United Way will begin campaigning for next year's allocation in August with hopes to increase funds available for these worthy programs.
